This work explores behavioural and emotional patterns through movement and music. Starting from a personal perspective and lived experiences, the work develops by introducing the complexity of individuality and how it affects others.

Working with both set and improvised material, patterned movements are never exactly the same. An interrogation of life and the sudden changes that occur; how we simply adapt; or how we possibly don’t.

How does sound change us? Stimuli is performed by 5 dancers and an ensemble of 5 musicians, each musician bringing their own characteristics both reflecting and influencing the movement on stage. We examine the tensions between dancer and musician, the push and pull of environmental stimuli.

Premiered at The Place for Resolution Dance Festival 2023

“A ‘pas de deux’ of music and movement, live musicians interacted with the dancers and
allowed themselves to influence each other.

The physicality of the dancers was hypnotising to watch as they contorted through Ekholm’s dynamic choreography.” -Liam Woodvine
